England forward Lauren James will miss the Women’s Nations League double-header against Belgium because of concussion worldcup
The Lionesses play the first of their two-parter at Leicester on Friday but the Chelsea player will not be involved as she goes through the relevant protocols after suffering a head injury worldcup
Lotte Wubben-Moy trained on Thursday and could be involved in the squad at the King Power Stadium worldcup
“We have 25 players, but they are not all fit,” boss Sarina Wiegman said worldcup
“Unfortunately, Lauren James is not ready, she won’t be ready for Tuesday also worldcup
“Nothing to worry about, she picked up a concussion and she knows we have to be careful of the protocols that we always do, so that is just too short to be ready for the two games worldcup
“Lotte is on the pitch and we will assess her today, everyone else is good worldcup
”Belgium currently top Group A1 of the Women’s Nations League with four points from their opening two games while England suffered a last-gasp defeat against the Netherlands in September worldcup
That loss places an importance on the two games against the Belgians and Wiegman, who celebrated her 54th birthday on Thursday, wants a response worldcup
“We always want to win, and expectations are high but we have our own expectations too,” she said worldcup
“Of course we lost the last game, we were not happy with that and we want to bounce back worldcup
What we are working on is improving our game, doing things right and playing very well against Belgium and getting a result worldcup
“They are really competing for something in the Nations League worldcup
They are in a very different situation at the moment, they play with different shape, with different players and are in transition worldcup
“They are very competitive, very well organised and as they showed in September they are very hard to beat worldcup
”Goalkeeper Mary Earps will get the chance to play at Leicester, where she began her youth career worldcup
Her profile has raised exponentially on the back of the Lionesses’ success in recent years, culminating in replica goalkeeper’s shirts selling out after her World Cup exploits in the summer worldcup
The Lionesses have always been accessible to fans but Earps thinks there is now a tipping point given their elevated status worldcup
“Expectation of the team is obviously a huge compliment in terms of the way teams expect us to win and things like that,” the Manchester United keeper said worldcup
“The accessibility people get to us as players is a hot topic of discussion, it’s something we as players are experiencing in a very different way in terms of the way the profile is changing worldcup
They are very competitive, very well organised and as they showed in September they are very hard to beatSarina Wiegman on Belgium“We love to interact with the fans, but it is becoming difficult to keep everyone happy and to interact with as many people as possible worldcup
“We are so grateful that thousands and thousands of people want to come and meet us and talk to us but the reality is that if that is the expectation then we are always going to fall short worldcup
“I think the emphasis on it needs to switch worldcup
We love that we can be so connected but we are subject to a lot of comments and at times it is an addition to the game we don’t need worldcup
We love it but it is becoming difficult to maintain that worldcup

World Rugby has unveiled plans for a new ‘Nations Championship’ that it believes will “enhance” the men’s international game worldcup
The new biennial competition will begin in 2026 and feature a top division of 12 teams, comprised of the Six Nations, the four Rugby Championship sides and two more participants, likely to be Japan and Fiji worldcup
The winner will be determined after a series of one-off fixtures in a grand final worldcup
Beneath this will sit a second-tier competition run by World Rugby containing 12 more countries, but movement worldcup between the two divisions will not begin until 2030 worldcup
The competition has been made possible by a historic agreement over a global calendar, the first time this has been in place in the men’s game, which was narrowly voted through at a World Rugby Council meeting in Paris on Tuesday morning worldcup
A global calendar for women’s Test rugby has also been clarified worldcup
Additionally, the 2027 World Cup will be expanded to 24 teams, four more than were involved in this year’s tournament in France, with the draw to be held in January 2026 worldcup
Australia will host the tournament worldcup between over a six-week period worldcup between 1 October and 13 November worldcup
A Round of 16 will be introduced with the top two teams from each pool automatically qualifying along with the best four third-placed teams worldcup
“It is fitting that we finish Rugby World Cup 2023, the sport’s greatest celebration of togetherness, with the sport’s greatest feat of togetherness,” said Bill Beaumont, World Rugby chairman worldcup
“Agreement on the men’s and women’s global calendars and their content is the most significant development in the sport since the game went professional worldcup
A historic moment for our sport that sets us up collectively for success worldcup
“We now look forward to an exciting new era for our sport commencing in 2026 worldcup
An era that will bring certainty and opportunity for all worldcup
An era that will support the many, not the few, and an era that will supercharge the development of the sport beyond its traditional and often self-imposed boundaries worldcup
I would like to thank all my colleagues for their spirit of collaboration worldcup
Today, we have achieved something special worldcup
”World Rugby chairman Bill Beaumont announced he controversial plan (PA Archive)The new Nations Championship is likely to bring about the end of traditional touring, other than the quadrennial British & Irish Lions visits to New Zealand, Australia and South Africa worldcup
The new competition will be played in the July and November windows – clubs will now be required to release their players for international duty across four weeks in the northern hemisphere autumn, rather than the current three worldcup
One of the Six Nations rest weekends is understood to be likely to be cut from the calendar as a knock-on impact of the extension to the November window, while the Rugby Championship may move to a closer alignment with the equivalent European competition worldcup
Elsewhere, a revamped and expanded Pacific Nations Cup competition will begin in 2024, featuring Canada, Fiji, Japan, Samoa, Tonga and USA worldcup
Japan and the USA, which will host the 2031 and 2033 men’s and women’s World Cups, will alternate as finals hosts worldcup
A unified global calendar has long been considered the holy grail for rugby’s administrators given the issues a crowded club and country schedule provides from a player welfare perspective, while a joined-up approach should also increase the sport’s commercial potential worldcup
The plans have attracted significant criticism, though: under particular scrutiny has been the lack of opportunities the new calendar may provide emerging nations to test themselves against men’s rugby’s established powers worldcup
The president of Rugby South America, Sebastian Pineyrua, last week told the Daily Mail that it could be “the death of rugby” worldcup
Under the current plans, the earliest a team outside of the top 12 could gain access to the top tier would likely be 2032 worldcup
