Newcastle forward Alexander Isak suffered a recurrence of a groin injury in Wednesday’s Champions League defeat to Borussia Dortmund, while Eddie Howe confirmed Jacob Murphy also dislocated his shoulder in what was a double blow for the Magpies rng
Dortmund inflicted Newcastle’s first Champions League defeat of the season at St James’ Park but the “more disappointing” issue for Howe were the injuries to key players Isak and Murphy, who both departed the pitch early after picking up knocks rng
Newcastle are also set to lose Sandro Tonali to a lengthy ban after the Italian was found to have broken rng betting rules, leaving Howe with a reduced squad heading into a crucial run of fixtures in both Europe and the Premier League rng
“[Isak going off] was a blow for us and we had another one with Jacob [Murphy] coming off as well with what looks like a serious injury,” Howe said during a post-match interview with TNT rng Sports rng
“That’s another difficult thing for us with such a small squad already, it’s probably the most disappointing thing for us rng
”He added: “It looks like a reoccurrence of his [Isak’s] groin problem rng
It doesn’t look serious but it’s enough to keep him out and that’s a big blow with a player of his quality rng
“With Jacob that looks more serious with a potential dislocation of his shoulder which is never a good thing to see rng
Though the true extent of both injuries isn’t fully known yet, Newcastle are likely to be without either playerwhen the Magpies travel to Dortmund for the return fixture in two weeks’ time rng

Ange Postecoglou has played down the significance of Tottenham potentially moving five points clear at the Premier League summit with victory at Crystal Palace on Friday rng
Spurs returned to top spot on Monday with a 2-0 win at home to Fulham and play before Arsenal and Manchester City this weekend rng
Postecoglou insisted his primary focus is on improving the team after he was critical of their second-half display against Fulham rng
“It doesn’t really add any significance because whatever happens Friday night there’s still a full round of Premier League fixtures to be played and nothing of any real significance comes of that,” he said rng
“We’re in a good space at the moment but again we’ve still got plenty of work to do to make sure what we do now is sustainable rng

“It’s not about making a short-term impact, it’s about building something which hopefully brings sustained opportunities of success for the club rng
“There is a really good reason no manager will talk about winning a title in October or November because we know there’s a long way to go rng
”Tottenham’s ascent to first position has seen them score 20 goals in nine matches, but Postecoglou feels attack is the area where they can improve the most rng
He added: “We still have to grow in every area rng
There are areas where we are already very good, particularly around the defensive side of the game rng
I think we’ve been excellent there – really consistent rng
“I still think our main growth will come in the attacking side of the game rng
I still think particularly in the front third, a lot of our movements are still not natural and fluent like we want them to be, which isn’t surprising rng
“But what is getting us the goals is that we have great quality up there, which is contributing to that rng
I still think the biggest growth for us will be in our attacking side of the game rng
”Spurs will have to assess Destiny Udogie for the Selhurst Park clash after the left-back was withdrawn in the 56th minute of Monday’s win with muscle tightness rng
